A big change you need to know

A big change for online art sales 👀 

If you sell your art online through social commerce, you’re probably shipping your work globally and the USA should be your biggest market. If so, there’s something important you need to know.

From the end of August the USA is removing the de minimis rule.

Until now, you could ship print orders to the USA that were under $800 in value with no customs fees or tax, as they were considered too small for the customs authorities to worry about.

As per a change announced by the White House on July 30th, every single package regardless of the value will face customs fees, tariffs and most likely some delays at the border.

This change takes effect from August 29th, so it’s time to get ready for it right now! If you don’t do anything, then the effect will be:

💸 Extra charges for your buyers, or extra costs for you

🚛 Slower delivery times

👀 A negative impact to your collector relationships if you don’t resolve it

If you’re using our fine art print-on-demand service, you don’t need to do anything!

We already print and ship within the USA (Brooklyn), so orders you fulfil through us will not be impacted. That means no customs, no delays, and no surprise charges.

(FYI We also have our own production in the UK and Germany, so the same applies there - no fees, no delays. This covers the major markets - around 90% of your sales will be covered. For the other places you can prepay the fees to ensure smooth deliveries - this is a setting in our software)

Manual print-on-demand orders

Did you know there’s a hidden gem inside Creative Hub?

You can place manual print-on-demand orders, sent to yourself or anyone else. It’s the perfect way to see exactly what your collectors receive, which can include branded packaging, digital signatures, edition numbering, certificates of authenticity, and letters to buyers.

Print-on-demand orders are usually automatic, just connect your online art store to Creative Hub and we’ll handle the rest: print, personalise, and ship as per your setup. However you can also place manual versions of these orders.

When you get a print-on-demand order delivered to you, you can use this opportunity to create some great content for your social feeds. Unbox the magic, show off the quality, and give your audience a sneak peek into what they’ll receive.

Another use case would be if you are planning an event or exhibition.
